Pool Projection, Amherst VA 2014
The images on the screens are photos of my brush strokes shot close up and projected at a larger scale. The screens are made of a circular lightweight material to be tossed, thrown, caught, floated or submerged in the pool, a chance means of catching the images projected. The swimmers were each given a circular "screen" and told at the start of the piece, at the same time as the audience, that their task was to catch the projected images. What occurred were chance patterns and reflected images, the movement of the swimmers with each other, with the pool, and with the color and reflections as I angled and moved the projector. The gesture of my marks projected with light into the night sky and water activated by the swimmers.
