
Bio
Suzy Sureck has exhibited
her work in Europe, the Middle East, Australia, India and New
York. Her photographs, drawings and installations, involve the
physical and metaphoric qualities of wind, water, light and
shadow, with attention to the environment and involvement with
site. Projects include QuamaneQ, a wind and light responsive
work reflected on the façade of the Performing Arts Center
for the Neuberger Museum Biennial, Alice and the Looking Glass,
a projected work for the historic Evergreen House, Taking in
the Rain, a multimedia installation at the Newhouse Center for
Contemporary Art, Snug Harbor, NY, Aqua Lumina spanning 200
feet over the East River from Socrates Park in Astoria, NY,
and Double Crossings suspended 1500 feet above the Ramon Crater
in the Negev desert in Israel. She created underwater installations
Many Moons for Bass in Omi, NY and Polka Dot Pond at the University
of Maine in Augusta. Her works have been highlighted in publications
including The New York Times, World Art, New York Arts Magazine,
Sculpture Magazine and Flash Art, and can be found in both public
and private collections.
Suzy Sureck has presented
lectures on her work at The University of Maryland, The University
of Maine in Augusta, The University of Fine Arts in Philadelphia,
and The Center for Creative Studies in Detroit. She currently
teaches at The State University of New York in New Paltz and
Queens College.
As Director of The Arts
Program for Seeds of Peace, she developed creative projects
and an artist in residence program for the purposes of conflict
resolution. Ms. Sureck worked individually and collaborative
with teens from regions of conflict such as, Jordan, Israel,
Palestine, Serbia, Croatia and Cyprus.
Suzy Sureck received
a Masters Degree in Sculpture from Cranbrook Academy in Michigan,
and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Cooper Union in New York
as well as studying at The Slade School of Art in London. She
lives and works in New York City and Gardiner, NY. |
